The Moody Kitchen. Is it right for you?

Updated: May 30, 2023

Are you in love with dark painted cabinets or sleek black countertops? Visually, you may love the look, but what is the best way to ensure this design element will flow with the rest of your home? How long will this look be in style? In this post, we will explore the design trend and hopefully help shed some light on whether or not it is the right choice for remodeling your kitchen.

Although white kitchen cabinets are a universal classic, we are slowly seeing them being replaced with bold, bright or dark colors. What a time to be alive! Forest greens, classic blues and even smoky blacks are the colors of choice for this up and coming trend. Some opt for brighter or less attention-getting shades such as sage green, baby blue or even mushroom. The color options are endless, but how will you know that it will flow with the rest of your decor?

As a homeowner, many are afraid of going bold, which is understandable when considering that a home renovation trend lasts about 10 years. Here are a few questions to ask yourself when deciding on a kitchen cabinet color:

1. How is the rest of your home designed? Do you have bold colors in adjoining rooms that connect to the kitchen?

2. How much sunlight naturally comes into the space? Will the room be able to handle a dark shade?

3. Which bold colors are you already using throughout the home? Will your kitchen color make sense when looking at the interior as a whole?

If you love the thought of dark cabinets and want to dip your feet in the water without fully jumping in, why not just choose an element such as the island, in the dark or bright shade you love? If you decide to go dark all over, we have found that adding in a bright white countertop and backsplash along with strategic lighting make all the difference visually while opening up the space.

In the end we recommend you go with your gut. You are the one who will be enjoying it for many years to come!
