2021 Kitchen Trends with Classic Style

Updated: May 30, 2023

After a quite unusual year, most of us have spent a lot more time at home--particularly in the kitchen. Many of our clients have realized that their current kitchen layout no longer serves them. They want to upgrade the functionality and aesthetic appeal, while keeping the space timeless enough to be enjoyed for many years to come.

We have compiled a list of our top 5 kitchen trends that are here to stay!

1. Touchless faucets

Now, you can enjoy the convenience of a touchless faucet at home. With more people aware of personal hygiene in 2021, it is a great time to add this modern convenience to your space. These faucets turn off automatically, making them an eco-friendly and economical option.

2. Quartz Countertops

Carrara marble will always be in style. Wine stains on your Carrara marble...not so much. Many of our clients who love the marble look are opting to go for quartz instead. Not only is it scratch and chip resistant, it's also stain resistant which allows you to get the expensive look of marble, at a fraction of the price with added durability. Now, who doesn't want to drink to that?!

3. Kitchen Wallpaper and Tiled Walls

While the open shelving trend (instead of upper cabinets) is still going strong, many people are realizing that the space behind those shelves needs to have some personality. Tile is a great option for this area, but another trend we are seeing is wallpaper. This isn't your grandmothers wallpaper. Rich textures and vivid hues are great for the client who is afraid to do color on the cabinetry but still wants high style. This adds a low risk element to the overall design of the space.

4. Added Texture

For those who are afraid to go bold with color, adding texture to the kitchen is a great way to create interest and depth to the space. Shiplap ceilings, rattan lighting, and warm wood tones mixed with traditional white cabinetry are a great way to add personality to the space without committing to a color.

5. Statement Islands

Speaking of color, if you aren't willing to commit to colorful cabinetry, why not make a statement with the island? Sage greens, off black and navy are popular choices. Wood islands with white cabinetry are also a safe yet expressive choice.

With all of the fun trends, it can be hard to decide which will work best with your style. Take inventory of the rest of your home and let that be your guide. Your home should be an expression of your personal style and personality so have fun with it!
